Bookshelf Thursday

There are some amazing, intense books in this week’s cubby!  All of these novels (minus The Blind Assassin) explore a futuristic of society at the crossroads of science and humanity.

Margaret Atwood: The Handmaid’s Tale, The Blind Assassin, Oryx and Crake, The Year of the Flood, MaddAddam.  If you have never read Atwood, you must go out IMMEDIATELY and pick up one of her fantastic novels.  Atwood’s speculative fiction simultaneously terrifies and enthralls me.

Neal Shusterman: Unwind, UnWholly, UnSouled -> just waiting for UnDivided to come out in paperback to complete this series that at times seems so real it’s scary.

M. T. Anderson: Feed -> I picked up Feed on a whim at the bookstore and if you can make it through the thick dialect, it is truly heart-wrenching portrayal of Facebook gone very wrong.

Ernest Cline: Ready Player One -> One of my favorites reads of 2013 and brilliantly narrated by Will Wheaton on audiobook.

Andy Weir: The Martian -> I can’t wait for Ridley Scott to bring this movie to life with Matt Damon!  The Martian is a fast paced race against time as Mark struggles to survive on Mars after he has been accidentally left behind, believed to be dead by his fellow crew members.

Have you read any of these?  Which are your favorites?  Can you recommend any books based off of these??
