Last Week’s Comic Book Round Up

I got a little bit of everything in last week’s comic book haul – comedy, fantasy, superheroes, the works.

Archie #2 – For a comic book all about Archie, all I got say is Jughead is hella hot.  Jughead is even getting his own comic book 10/7/15 from Chip Zdarsky and Erica Henderson – More than burgers but mostly burgers.

Giant Days #6 – Love this cover!  Daisy and Esther are on a mission to find Susan after she disappears during Christmas break with some help from McGraw ❤2015-08-21 22.09.15

Rat Queens #11 – After falling in love with the trade volumes, I’ve crossed over into single issue purchases of Rat Queens!  I’m not over the moon with the new artist Tess Fowler, unfortunately Rat Queens has been plagued with artist problems after the original artist Roc Upchurch was arrested on domestic violence charges.  In other Rat Queens news, the series is being developed into an animated television series #squee!  You can read about it here.  Also I found out I’m missing the special on Braga – Imma gonna need that!

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Vol. 1 – I’ve heard so many good things about Squirrel Girl, I can’t wait to read it!  I picked it up on a whim at the new comic book bar in town – My Parent’s Basement, if you’re in the Atlanta area check it out!

The Runaways #3 – Runaways continues to be my favorite of the Battleworld comics ❤

Whatcha been reading??

Monday Comics

I didn’t get around to posting yesterday because our cat Bear was missing!! He went on a weekend long adventure into the great outdoors that nearly gave Mark and I a heart attack.  After searching on foot/by car, going to the animal shelter and hanging flyers, Bear turned up this morning laying on the porch like nothing had happened.  We are very happy to have the little troublemaker home.

On to comics!  Just 3 this week plus a super awesome ARC.

Giant Day #5 – Probably my favorite issue yet!!  I’m glad this was such a strong issue because I was a little indifferent about the last issue.  Issue 5 saves the day.

A-Force #2 – A lot is going on which seems like an understatement.  Still s relative newbie to comics, I am working on navigating Battleworld and Victor Von Doom.  I’m loving all the the action.  All the wonderful ladies in one comic is making want to seek out the solo comics especial She-Hulk.

Lumberjanes #16 – Month after month I love these girls.  The girls are reunited with Jen and we get some more backstory of Rosie and the old Bear Woman.

Black Widow Forever Red by Margaret Stohl – So so excited to have nabbed this ARC from my bookshop Little Shop of Stories and I can’t wait to pass it around my book club.  Due out this October, I’ll post a full review before then, hopefully within the next month.

What comics are you reading??

Sunday (Tuesday) Comics

While I made sure to go to Criminal Records this past holiday weekend, I clearly did not make posting about it a high priority.  I beg for your forgiveness!  See my humble offering:

IMG_4698Wytches #6 – You will not believe who pledged Sailor to the wytches in the chilling conclusion to the first story arc.

A-Force #1 – Yay it’s here!!  Even though I was a little lost (this post from Panels helped a lot!), I thoroughly enjoyed so many bad-ass ladies in one comic book!

Lumberjanes #14 – A new story arc starts up as Jen is attacked and kidnapped in a freak summer snow storm!  Of course the ‘Janes refuse to sit by and they set out to rescue their beloved camp counselor themselves!

In related news, I read and LOVED Nimona by Noelle Stevenson, featured on last week’s Sunday Comics.  It was incredible – funny, serious, adorable, sad, ALL THE FEELS!  This week’s Oh, Comics! podcast from Panels is all about Nimona – check it out here!

I’m a shark!!  What did you read over the long weekend??

Sunday Comics

I am so excited about this weekend’s comic book haul! #squee

IMG_4677Star Wars #4 – Hoping its better than #3

Darth Vader #5 – Still need to read the 4 #eek

Saga #28 – God I love this comic so much.

Giant Days #3 – One of my new favorites!

Ms. Marvel #15 – Always a delight 🙂

Nimona – I haven’t read the web-comic but I can’t wait to dive in!

Descender #3 – I can’t wait to read this, the end of #2 was so heartbreaking, please check out this new, amazing sci-fi comic from Image.

Thor #8 – The unveiling!!!  (I approve)

What are you reading this weekend??

Monday Comics

Southern Cross and Giant Days both live up to their debut issues!

I want to go back to college and hang out with Esther, Daisy, and Susan – maybe not while they’re suffering from a plague-like flu but for general shenanigans.  The mystery thickens with Southern Cross, I’m still not entirely sure what’s going on but I’m intrigued!  No spoilers but things never bode well for characters named Erin 😦

Trillium by Jeff Lemire is actually a purchase for Mark but after reading a bit about the series, it’s being added to my TBR as well.

It’s the year 3797, and botanist Nika Temsmith is researching a strange species on a remote science station near the outermost rim of colonized space.

It’s the year 1921, and renowned English explorer William Pike leads an expedition into the dense jungles of Peru in search of the fabled “Lost Temple of the Incas,” an elusive sanctuary said to have strange healing properties.

Two disparate souls separated by thousands of years and hundreds of millions of miles. Yet they will fall in love and, as a result, bring about the end of the universe. Even though reality is unraveling all around them, nothing can pull them apart. This isn’t just a love story, it’s the LAST love story ever told. – Goodreads

Lastly, I started reading Seconds by Bryan Lee O’Malley.  What comics have you been reading lately??

Saturday Comics

I’ve been with Lumberjanes since the beginning and Issue #13 is by far my favorite!  #13 shows all the Janes coming to camp at the beginning of the summer, an origin story if you will.

A few thoughts while reading:

Jo’s one Dad is a silver fox!  Is that weird that I just thought that about a cartoon character?  I don’t care, it’s true.

The beginning of April and Ripley’s friendship is so sweet!

Mal is such a badass.

Yay all the Janes are united!

There’s even an origin story for Bubbles!!  I’m seriously contemplating Molly/Bubbles cosplay for DragonCon.  Aw beginning of the best summer ever!!

The rest of my comic book haul includes Ms. Marvel #14 and Thor #7.

Giant Days #1 from Boom! Box by John Allison, Lissa Treiman, and Whitney Cogar

Locke and Key Vol.6 Alpha & Omega

tumblr_nfryh5RueY1t3fpyko1_1280

Most of my fangirling is centered around Giant Days, a new comic from Boom! Box, and Locke and Key Vol. 6, the final chapter in the series.  I want to devour all of these comics right now but I am having a slight first world nerd problem.  In anticipation of the premiere of Season 5 of Game of Thrones, HBO has a GOT marathon on and I can’t look away.  Yes, I have seen all these episodes before (more than once) and yes, I have HBOGo and can watch them whenever I want.  HOWEVER, it’s like when ABCFamily does a Harry Potter marathon.  I own all the movies and have seen them a million times but I still watch them anyway, on TV with commercials.  Why??  I just can’t look away.

First world nerd problems for sure.

What are you reading/watching this weekend?
