Playing Catch Up

Why hello there, long time, no see!  It has been quite awhile since I updated – over three months actually – eek!

My husband and I are expecting a baby boy in May so as you can imagine, our world is in the process of being turned upside down.  We’ve decided on a Harry Potter nursery, is anyone actually surprised??

Our baby announcement!

We’ve gotten some of the major furniture items, done the baby registry, my friends are planning my NC baby shower and my next item of business is researching daycare for after I go back to work. The whole things still seems surreal!

Harry Potter flying key mobile

My best friend from college was in Atlanta for a conference so we went a bit baby crazy.  We made this gorgeous Harry Potter mobile using this YouTube video as a reference:  I am absolutely in love with it!

Amidst all the baby preparations, I did keep up with my reading.  Yes it is February but I would still like to share a few of my favorites from 2015:

Favorite Comics – The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Nimona, Locke and Key, Rat Queens, Trillium, Descender, Wytches, Saga, Ms. Marvel

Favorite Books – Carry On, The Revenge Playbook, An Ember in the Ashes, Speak, I’ll Give You the Sun, Rose Under Fire, Legend

Favorite TV Shows – Orphan Black, Supergirl

Favorite Movies – Star Wars, Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part Two.

I hope you all have been doing well these path few months, reading some great books, and nerding out with some wonderful fandoms!

Sunday Comics

A good mix of brand new comics and some old favorites this week.  Saga #30 – This issue wraps up the most recent story arc and of course it ends with a cliffhanger right as Saga goes into its regularly scheduled hiatus 😭😭 – time for a series reread?

Runaways #2 – The ragtag band of teenagers have become the Runaways as they flee from Doom’s Academy when they learn a dark secret about the final exams.  Can’t wait to see where this goes!

Descender #5 – Month after month I am impressed with the Descender storyline and blown away by the artwork.  Issue #5 is the second to last in this arc and it did not disappoint – I wants the finale now!!

Archie #1 – I couldn’t help but pick up Archie  given all the buzz and it’s illustrated by Fiona Staples (of Saga).  I read my fair share of Archie comics in the supermarket line and this reboot was pretty entertaining; I think I will pick up #2 in August.  The most interesting part was the inclusion of the original Archie #1 from 1941 in the back of the comic.

We Stand On Guard #1 – A recommendation from my local comic book shop Criminal Records, WSOG is the new series from Brian K. Vaughan. USA v. Canada with futuristic, militaristic robots, sure why not?

Last Week’s Comics Tonight

Last week brought some fantastic comics to my cubby at Criminal Records here in Atlanta.

Saga #29 – In the span of 20 pages, Saga has me cracking up over a serious NSFW 2-page lizard spread and then nearly in tears over an unexpected character death – how do you do this Brian K Vaughan and Fiona Staples?! HOW!

Descender #4 – If you have not picked up Descender yet, you absolutely must – consistently breathtaking artwork and a heart-wrenching story to boot.

Lumberjanes #15 – I just saw on Twitter that Noelle Stevenson is stepping down as lead on Lumberjanes.  I’m sad but I know that Lumberjanes will continue to be amazing as everyone works tirelessly to ensure Friendship to the Max!

Rat Queens Vol. 2 – I haven’t read Vol. 2 yet but I’m excited!!

Giant Days #4 – Giant Days continues to be a quirky, enjoyable read.  I am interested to see where the series goes.

Ms. Marvel #16 – Ramping up for a new story arc following Kamala’s heartbreak.  How about the cliff hanger for next month #squee!

What comics have you been reading?

Bookshelf Thursday – Comic Book Cubby

The past year I have dived into the world of comic books and fallen in love.  This is my current storage method – I’m not sure the best method of storage but this has worked out better the more comics I acquired.  So that’s a sign to buy more comics??

Here’s the line-up: Ms. Marvel, Thor, Lumberjanes, Locke and Key, Saga, Nimona, Seconds, Courtney Crumrin, Descender, Star Wars, Outcast, Darth Vadar, Trillium, Giant Days, A-Force, Buffy, Orphan Black, Southern Cross, Wytches, Rat Queens, and Sex Criminals. Whew! (Or at least whew by my standards!)

What are your favorite comics? And what is your comic book storage methodology?

Sunday Comics

I am so excited about this weekend’s comic book haul! #squee

IMG_4677Star Wars #4 – Hoping its better than #3

Darth Vader #5 – Still need to read the 4 #eek

Saga #28 – God I love this comic so much.

Giant Days #3 – One of my new favorites!

Ms. Marvel #15 – Always a delight 🙂

Nimona – I haven’t read the web-comic but I can’t wait to dive in!

Descender #3 – I can’t wait to read this, the end of #2 was so heartbreaking, please check out this new, amazing sci-fi comic from Image.

Thor #8 – The unveiling!!!  (I approve)

What are you reading this weekend??

Sunday Comics

Small comic book haul this week: Saga # 27 and Descender #2

Damn if little Gus hasn’t become one of my favorites characters!

I feel like Saga has turned into the old seasons of The Walking Dead – all the characters are separated and they are never all in one issue and I need them all in one place again!!  I need to see The Will and Lying Cat!

I can’t wait to dive into Descender #2, I was so impressed with the first issue!  But first is the Game of Thrones season 5 premiere #squee!

Sunday Comics

My weekend kicked off by hitting up Criminals Records.  There was only one lonely comic in my cubby – Saga #26 but I also picked up a newbie – Descender #1 by Jeff Lemir and Dustin Nguyen from Image Comics (aren’t they the best?!).

Each issue which features the ever adorable Gus is amazing!  Also, Lying Cat, it was a double delight.  However, I can’t say I was a fan of how the issue ended – I haven’t been a fan of that particular story line.  I am interested to see how both Marko and Alana fare with their respective sketchy alliances.

Descender is a new comic from Image with stunning watercolor artwork.  I was really impressed with the groundwork laid for the series in which a futuristic coalition of intergalactic worlds are nearly wiped out by unknown planet-sized robots.  The aftermath of the massacre leads to a government sanctioned slaughter of all robotic entities however one small robot boy was forgotten on a distant moon and he suddenly finds himself the universe’s number #1 target.

What are you reading this weekend?
